Beta Fish / Siamese fighting fish scale problem?

The head and part of the back of my struggle against the fish is a very dark, probably black, while the rest of your body is bright blue. Sounds like your nitrites are too high, it will have a burn rate that is in a darkening of fins near the edge. Looks like you could need for clean water more often or modify a bigger piece. In addition, if you can afford it, is to move to a larger tank. This will balance things.
